Zahra Rahnavard, Iranian opposition figure, urged the head of Iran’s judiciary to take action against the “mob attacks” on opposition figures.
Kaleme website published the open letter to Ayatollah Larijani today in which Rahanavard condemns the attacks on Mehdi Karroubi’s home in Tehran and Ayatollah Dastgheib in Shiraz as “the strategy, assumed by the country’s security and judicial bodies, of oppressing the opposition through mob attacks.”
In her letter, Zahra Rahnavard described herself as the plaintiff for all those “who have been subjected to savage attacks in the past year.” (Bron: RadioZamaneh)

Violence against journalists continues after the formal withdrawal of United States combat troops from Iraq in August. An Iraqi journalist was shot dead this week on his way to Karbala in southern Iraq when gunmen travelling in another car fired at him, report the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ), the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) and Reporters Without Borders (RSF). A suicide bomber detonated explosives at a Shiite procession in Quetta, Pakistan on 3 September, triggering chaos, killing two media workers and injuring eight other journalists, report the Pakistan Press Foundation (PPF), the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ), Reporters Without Borders (RSF) and the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ). Political crises and violent conflicts in West Africa created the conditions for abuse of media rights in 2009, says a new report by the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA). "West Africa 2009: Annual State of the Media Report" says that in most countries, the perpetrators of press freedom violations were state security personnel or sympathisers of political parties. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad continued his attempts at reducing Tehran’s traffic and population by suggesting 40 percent of civil servants do their work from home.
